Albireo asked: This company is more expensive than the city’s waste management service which would have only picked up trash 1x per week. Now the private company is increasing the cost of the recycling pick-up, so the civic association is voting on whether to drop the recycling program. I want to weigh in on this issue at the next meeting. Any ideas on what I can say to keep the recycling program going even though it will be more expensive?
Golden Sindy: They wanted trash pick up twice a week instead of what the city offered - once a week. If everyone recycled in the first place, they wouldn’t even need 2 times/week. It’s crazy.
Hello my Virgo friend, Kelly.
Hey Isabelle: I see this is not a happy subject for you - eh? Wow, once every two weeks there. Well, people here just whine, if you ask me.

Arashel asked: I have a big box full of plastic bottles and soda cans, where can I drop them off so they’ll be recycled? My apartment complex has only one garbage bin (I mean, not one specified for recycling) if I drop them in there, would Waste Management still separate them?

myxtly asked: I have been recycling for years. The waste management collects it, takes it and recycles it. What happens to all the money they make from all that?

George G asked: I live in North Idaho, and i’ve been trying to find ways to improve recycling, and waste management in my high school. I hope to be able to do some community clean up, We live in a 2000 person town so it wouldn’t be too hard. If I could find a group that could support me and my friends that would be great. If there is no group we should start one. If you have any info or opinions on this topic by all means answer.

Sandy Cheeks! asked: I want to recycle as much as I can, including glass bottles, of different colors. I’m in Clear Lake City, TX area, but they said they consider glass a hazardous waste. I call the city of houston, they give me waste management, but it’s a never ending cycle, no one gives me a straight answer where I can recycle glass. Please help, I want to go green as much as possible. I’ve even switched to cloth diapers for my baby.

PS The websites give me disconnected numbers, store numbers, but no answers to glass.

Unsure asked: Over the years, I have collected a large amount of CD/DVD cases and want to get rid of them in a way that is friendly to the environment. Can I just recycle them through my county’s waste management recycling program or do I have to sent them to a specific location/company?

St.Jeb asked: I think it is quite odd that trash haulers like BFI and Waste Management ask their customers to recycle and charge them for this recycling, especially when they in turn make money on those items. They should actually be giving money to customers for their recycling which in turn would be used as incentive. Does anyone agree?
There are limited independent recyclers based on these large trash haulers, hard to compete with them.
I worked for a city organization whose job was to pick up used tires and take them to BFI, they would charge $50 a truck load and in turn chop up those tires and sell it for fuel for a paper plant. The greed here is what I am questioning. It is like an oil company charging you to give it your fuel.

lillybob0y asked: I’m trying to get my family together to start recycling, but i don’t know the “rules”, We have Waste Management (don’t know if they all have different regulations or what?)
Do we need to seperate plastics and glass, etc?
Do they need to be rinsed out?
Can anything with the recycle triangle be recycled?
I had other questions, but cannot remember them now (gofigure!) Any other advice or guidelines to follow will help. Thanks!
Frances
